Healthy Futures Initiative

Healthy Futures Initiative supports young people in making healthy choices for a lifestyle free of alcohol and drug abuse.

We accomplish this work through youth empowerment, youth driven activities, and utilizing a broad coalition of community partners throughout Summit County.

Strategies and Projects

Healthy Futures Initiative works on a number of strategies to help reduce substance use in youth and to strengthen collaboration among community agencies. The current areas of focus for the coalition are:
  1. Community Collaboration: Identify champions and maintain collaboration of groups, individuals, boards and organizations, and provide opportunities for partnership.
  2. Reduce Youth Substance Use: Create healthy community norms through targeted education, outreach and policy changes; encourage positive changes in behaviors and attitudes related to substance use; increase public awareness.
  3. Parent Education and Support Groups: Educate parents about relevant topics (e.g., marijuana legalization, underage drug and alcohol use, prescription drug abuse) and provide a continuum of parent-support services to encourage healthy choices.
  4. Promote Youth leaders: Collaborate with Summit School District, CMC, local ski areas, businesses, and other community partners to help youth and young adults become leaders in the community in implementing a healthy behavior model.
  5. Advance Healthy Social Norms: Promote family-focused events that are substance free; work to ensure that substance use at other community events is responsible and safe.

Suicide Prevention

The Suicide Prevention Action Team is a group of community leaders from partnering organizations and entities focused on community awareness, hosting suicide prevention trainings around the community, and providing support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide at the Suicide Loss Survivor Day each year.
