Regulated Special Waste
It is the policy of Summit County Solid Waste Management that all requests for disposal of non-hazardous industrial and Special Waste is evaluated and pre-approved by our engineering firm prior to acceptance at SCRAP - Additional fees may apply. The objective of the policy is to protect employees, the health and safety of landfill customers, and the environment in and around the landfill.
Special Waste - For the purpose of this protocol special waste is defined as any solid waste which requires special testing, handling, or disposal procedures. Beginning in 2016, additional fees may apply for any review of analytical data Please note that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) regulations do not include a definition for special waste.
Special Wastes include, but are not limited to, asbestos, (neither friable or non friable asbestos are accepted at this facility). Asbestos is accepted at various front range locations. The following materials are not accepted by Summit County Solid Waste Management:
- Bulk tires, or other bulk materials
- Contaminated soils
- Biomedical wastes
Freon Removal Policy
Appliances must be discarded here at SCRAP; please do no leave them at the drop off yard locations. A certificate is required for proof that a certified technician has removed the coolants for us to accept any cooling units, including air conditioners, refrigerators, and freezers. Most appliance service businesses have a technician for this service. Please check with your local phone directory for listings; the fees for this service can vary. It is $10 each per appliance to be dropped here for scrap metal recycling. Download a brochure (pdf) listing some service companies.
