RETIRED K9 BOBBY HONORED IN DEATH
SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – It is with great sadness that the Summit County Sheriff’s Office shares that on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, retired K9 “Bobby” died peacefully with his handler, Deputy Nathan Opsahl by his side.
Bobby, who was affectionately named after retired Summit County Commissioner Bob French, started with the Sheriff’s Office on April 19, 2008. He was a 2 ½ year old German Shepherd from the Czech Republic when Deputy Opsahl chose him from Von Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana.
Bobby was certified as a dual purpose canine trained in Narcotic Detection, Tracking and Patrol through the Colorado Police Canine Association and the National Police Canine Association. In 2010 Bobby received patrol dog of the year for the Colorado Police Canine Association and patrol dog of the quarter for the National Police Canine Association in 2010 as well.
Bobby retired to live with the Opsahl family on May 22, 2015 after 7 years of patrol duty. His passion for working, love of playing with tennis balls and dedication to his human partner will never be forgotten. The Sheriff’s Office is very grateful for the many expressions of sympathy and other acts of kindness during this difficult time. Those wishing to honor K9 Bobby may make a donation to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office K9 Fund.
