SUSPECTED DROWNING AT GREEN MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR
SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – On Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at approximately 4:43 p.m. the Summit County Sheriff's Office was notified of a suspected drowning at Green Mountain Reservoir near a popular diving rock. Sheriff's Deputies arrived at 4:57 p.m., began obtaining information from witnesses about the last seen point in the water and began searching the immediate shoreline.
A male was reportedly last seen making a dive off of a rock and did not surface after entering the water. Parties with the diver began immediately searching for him in the water to no avail. The missing man was part of a larger group that had rented pontoon boats at the reservoir and were camping in the area.
At about 6:30 p.m. the Sheriff's Office Special Operations personnel were arriving on scene with a boat and sonar equipment, which will be helpful in trying to locate the missing diver. County Road 30 from the North entrance to the Green Mountain Dam and area of water surface around the rock have been closed to the public. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
