COMMANDER ERIK BOURGERIE HONORED FOR 20 YEARS OF SERVICE

SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – On November 3, 2017, Detentions Division Commander, Erik Bourgerie, will retire from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office after 20 years of loyal and dedicated service. He has shepherded in many changes and improvements during his time at the Sheriff’s Office. Bourgerie is excited to begin his next chapter as the Director of the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Board on November 6, 2017.

Beginning his career in law enforcement on April 4, 1997 as a Detention Deputy, Bourgerie’s ambitious goals were immediately apparent as he began utilizing his respect for military service and resourcefulness to create a standing Color Guard which remains in place to this day. In August, 2000 he was promoted to Detention Sergeant. In 2004, Bourgerie transferred to the Operations Division as a Patrol Deputy and graduated 1st in his class overall from the Jefferson County Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy.

In January, 2006, Bourgerie was promoted to the position of Patrol Sergeant and enthusiastically took on the responsibilities of training and scheduling for the Operations Division.

Bourgerie was promoted to Detentions Division Commander in February, 2008. Over the last nearly ten years, he has helped the Sheriff’s Office make tremendous strides in numerous areas including improvement of facility functions, creating a robust inmate mental health and re-entry system as well as adding a comprehensive inmate medical care program. Bourgerie has also worked tirelessly protecting the security of his staff and all of those entering the Justice Center by securing radios, tasers and other protective equipment for deputies, adding holding cells, building a new camera system from the ground up and instituting biometric door access controls through the entire Summit County Justice Center campus.
