SUMMIT COUNTY SCHOOL FIGHTS RESULT IN ARRESTS

    SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – On November 13, 2018, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of three separate fights at Summit High School in unincorporated Summit County outside of Breckenridge.  

At approximately 10:25 a.m., two juvenile females and one eighteen year old female, Brisa Medina-Esquivel, were reported fighting in a hallway in Summit High School. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. 

At approximately 1:08 p.m., two juvenile females were reported fighting in the commons area in Summit High School. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. 

At approximately 1:13 p.m., a fourteen-year old female victim was lured into a bathroom at the Summit High School by a group of other juvenile girls (one fourteen-year old, two sixteen-year olds and one seventeen-year old). Preliminary information is that two of the girls blocked the doorway while a third girl assaulted the victim. The fourteen-year old female aggressor was taken into custody and detained at Mount View Youth Services Center in Lakewood. She was charged with Third Degree Assault, False Imprisonment, Conspiracy, and Interference with Staff, Faculty or Students of Educational Institutions. The investigation into this assault is ongoing and may result in additional charges being recommended to the District Attorney’s Office for the other girls involved. The fourteen-year old juvenile victim was taken to the hospital by her parents where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons stated, “This is a set of unfortunate and uncommon incidents in our school facilities. School officials and School Resource Officers on duty at the High School quickly responded to stabilize these incidents and restore the safety and security to the school. The investigation into these fights by school officials and deputies is ongoing. I encourage families to continue to talk with their children about safety and the importance about reporting any concerns promptly to parents, school officials, law enforcement or Safe2Tell Colorado.” 

All parties involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
