OFF-DUTY BRECKENRIDGE POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – On December 21, 2018 at approximately 11:50 p.m. the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request to assist the Breckenridge Police Department on South French Street in Breckenridge. Sheriff Deputies arrived and were briefed by the Breckenridge Sergeant that he had stopped a vehicle driving without headlights and upon contacting the driver recognized the male to be an off-duty Breckenridge Police Officer. To avoid any appearance of conflict the investigation was turned over to the Sheriff Deputies who furthered the investigation and arrested the driver. The driver was identified as Garrett Frye, 24 years of age, from Breckenridge, Colorado. Frye was booked in the Summit County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence and Driving without Headlights. He remained in custody until Saturday morning when he posted bond and was released. Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons complimented the professional handling of this arrest and said, "Police officers have a moral and legal obligation to abide by the laws that they enforce. The arrest demonstrates how seriously law enforcement take that obligation."
