SUMMIT COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL AND SHELTER RECEIVES $2,500 GRANT FROM THE PETCO FOUNDATION

    SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, Summit County Animal Control and Shelter (SCAC) received a $2,500 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its lifesaving work. 

The Petco Foundation investment will allow SCAC to provide necessary medical procedures to pets so that they are more adoptable. It will also permit the shelter to expand its ability to save animal lives by covering the medical treatments of animals that are transferred in from other overburdened shelters around Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and Kansas. Since all of the veterinary treatments provided to the shelter animals are paid for by donations and grants, the Petco Foundation grant will allow SCAC to meet the community demand for loving adoptable pets.  

Animal Control Director Lesley Hall stated, “We are thrilled to partner with the Petco Foundation! With this financial support, we can medically treat many animals and get them ready for their new homes. We also greatly value the support of our local Dillon, CO Petco store. Petco has also been a great help in increasing our cat adoptions.”

About Summit County Animal Control

Summit County Animal Control and Shelter is a division of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.  We provide animal control services for unincorporated Summit County and animal sheltering for all of Summit County to include the towns of Blue River, Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne.  The shelter is an open admission facility meaning we accept all stray or relinquished animals from within Summit County regardless of health or behavior condition.  We also accept relinquished animals and transfers from surrounding areas.  The principal programs of the Animal Control Division are as follows:

•    Pet animal control and licensing regulation enforcement

•    Sheltering program for stray or unwanted pets

•    Pet adoption program with animal behavioral assessment, temperament testing and modification through training for eligible adoptable pets

•    Humane education program for grades K-12. 

•    Volunteer program for improving adoptability of shelter pets through extensive animal care and handling

•    Pet sterilization and animal health care program for adoptable shelter pets
