SHERIFF’S OFFICE REMINDS THE PUBLIC TO REPORT SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR 

AND 

LOCK UP VEHICLES AND VALUABLES

    SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – The Summit County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public of the importance to continue being the Eyes and Ears in the community and in their neighborhood. Over the course of the night on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, several unlocked vehicles were broken into in the Summit Cove neighborhood. One unlocked vehicle was also reported stolen from Summit Cove.  

During this time of public separation, it is important to remember criminal activity is often based upon opportunity. Report suspicious behavior and activity immediately to 911. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to continue taking safety precautions by locking up and securing all vehicles, valuables and maintaining personal safety. Historically, the number of reported vehicle trespasses rise as the weather warms. Unfortunately, criminals will take advantage of easy opportunities. Do not let yourself become a victim. 

Remember to always lock your vehicle and remove any belongings you may have stored in it. Do not leave your car keys in your vehicle with the doors unlocked as that serves as an open invitation for opportunistic criminals to enter it. Lock your home and secure any items stored outside of your home. If your business is closed for the time being, if possible, remove merchandise that can be viewed through doors and windows. Stay aware of your surroundings and in contact with family, friends, support groups and use this opportunity to check-in with people in your circle.

Summit County is a safe community, it is important to be mindful that there are some people who will take advantage of the current social distancing. 

Residents are asked to report unfamiliar vehicles and persons roaming neighborhoods and parking lots during the late evening and early morning hours by calling Summit County Dispatch at (970) 668-8600.
