SUMMIT COUNTY – Summit County announced a second round of funding in its business assistance grant program to provide financial support to local businesses struggling with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is offering $250,000 in grant funds, available to businesses located in unincorporated areas of Summit County.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has turned our world upside down, and we know it is causing real economic hardship for so many businesses in Summit County," Summit County Finance Director Martina Ferris said. "Through this grant program, we hope to provide businesses some help to make ends meet."

The goal of Summit County’s business assistance program is to support businesses in unincorporated areas of the county that have been severely impacted by the pandemic and associated restrictions included in local and state public health orders. The grant funds are intended to help retailers and service providers pay for essential business-related expenses like payroll, rent, mortgages, utilities and supplies.

Eligible businesses may receive a one-time grant of up to $15,000. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • The business must have a physical business location in a commercially zoned area of unincorporated Summit County.
  • The business must show a 2020 revenue loss of 20 percent or more, relative to 2019. New businesses are eligible for this program and are exempt from this requirement.
  • The business must have fewer than 100 full-time equivalents (FTE).
  • The business must attest that it will spend the funds by Dec. 30, 2020.
  • Short-term rentals, home-based businesses, real estate businesses, publicly traded corporate entities and their subsidiaries are not eligible for this program.

For program details, or to apply for a grant, visit www.SummitCountyCO.gov/smallbusiness. The application deadline is 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 14.

The County has budgeted $250,000 for the local business grant program. Businesses located within the boundaries of an incorporated town are encouraged to contact their town to inquire about similar programs. The first round of funding in the Summit County Small Business Assistance Program, also totaling $250,000, was distributed in the spring.
