SUMMIT COUNTY – Summit County Government has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The award was received for the comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2019. This is the 32nd year in a row that the Summit County Government Finance department has received the award.

“Our finance team and specifically our Finance Director, Marty Ferris, puts an incredible amount of time and energy into our financial reporting each year in order to ensure the highest standards of transparency for our community,” said Summit County Manager, Scott Vargo. “I’m incredibly proud of the work of our finance team and it is an honor to have been recognized so many years in a row.”

The financial reports were judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the GFOA program, which included demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate Summit County Government’s financial story, and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
