Summit County Elections Division to Mail Ballots to All Active Registered Voters October 17

Avoid waiting in line; deadline to register or update a record to receive a ballot by mail is October 31

SUMMIT COUNTY – In preparation for the 2022 General Election, the Summit County Clerk & Recorder is encouraging voters to check that their voter registrations are correct and up to date online at GoVoteColorado.gov. Ballots are expected to arrive at the mailing addresses on file for Summit County voters the week of October 17. There is no need to make an additional request to receive a ballot by mail.

To verify or change the mailing address or any other part of your voter registration, or to register to vote for the first time, Summit County residents may visit GoVoteColorado.gov to verify or change the mailing address or any other part of their voter registration. A paper form can also be printed and mailed to the Clerk & Recorder, or residents may visit the Clerk & Recorder in person at the County Courthouse, located at 208 E. Lincoln Avenue in Breckenridge.

“Colorado has voted by automatic mail ballot since 2013 and is a leader conducting mail ballot elections in the U.S. In the 2020 General Election over 98% of ballot cast were by mail without having to wait in line at a Voter Service Polling Center,” Summit County Clerk & Recorder Kathleen Neel said. “Every active registered voter will receive a ballot in the mail.” The ballot will contain content customized for each voter based on their physical address provided by the voter at their most recent registration update.

Voters may return their ballots by mail in the envelopes provided by USPS mail, or by dropping them off in 24-hour secure drop box at the following 5 locations:

• Dillon Town Hall, 275 Lake Dillon Drive, Dillon
• Frisco Town Hall, 1 Main Street, Frisco
• Summit County North Branch Library, 651 Center Circle, Silverthorne
• Summit County Main Branch Library, County Commons, 0037 Peak One Drive, Frisco
• Summit County Courthouse, 208 East Lincoln Avenue, Breckenridge

The secure drop boxes will accept ballots from October 17 through 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 8. These drop boxes are under 24-hour recorded video surveillance.

Early in-person voting is available at the South Branch Library & Community Center at 103 South Harris Street in Breckenridge according to the following schedule for those choose to vote in person:

• Monday through Friday, October 24 through October 28 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
• Monday through Friday, October 31 through November 4 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
• Saturday, November 5 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (noon)
• Monday, November 7 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. 

On November 8 (Election Day), voters may either cast a ballot in person on a machine that produces a printed paper ballot, by hand-marking a paper ballot, or by simply dropping off their signed mail ballot envelopes between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the following three Voter Service Polling Centers:

• South Branch Library & Community Center, 130 South Harris Street, Breckenridge
• Silverthorne Pavilion, 400 Blue River Parkway, Silverthorne
• Summit County Community and Senior Center, 0083 Nancy’s Place, Frisco

All registered Summit County voters may cast their ballot vote at the Breckenridge early voting location or any of the three Voter Service Polling Centers in the county, regardless of which precinct they live in. Voters must vote in the County in which they reside.

“The Voter Service Polling Centers are at different locations than our secure, 24-hour drop-box locations, so it’s important for Summit County voters to make sure you’re headed to one of the three Summit County Voter Service Polling Centers if you’re looking to vote on a machine for a printed paper ballot, or to hand-mark a paper ballot in person,” Neel said. “It’s also important to keep in mind that we can see lines on Election Day at Voter Service Polling Centers, so we encourage citizens to vote as early as possible by mail, or if you choose to vote in person, taking advantage of early in-person voting in Breckenridge, to avoid that inconvenience.”

Voters who have not mailed their ballots by October 31 are highly encouraged to drop off their ballots in person at a 24-hour drop box or voter service polling center to ensure timely acceptance and processing. All mail ballots must be received in the Clerk & Recorder’s Office, a 24-hour ballot drop box or a Voter Service Polling Center by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, regardless of postmark date.

The Elections office is located in the Old County Courthouse at 208 Lincoln Avenue in Breckenridge, which is open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Per usual, all non-election services of the Clerk & Recorder, including Motor Vehicle license plates and titles, will be closed on Election Day. This ensures that voting and ballot tabulation are smooth and efficient. We appreciate the community’s understanding during the very busy day.”

The Summit County Clerk & Recorder counts all valid mail ballots in the same manner as valid ballots submitted in person, regardless of the outcome or closeness of any race.
