SUMMIT COUNTY—Summit County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) announced its process for appointing a Clerk and Recorder to replace Clerk-elect Stacey Nell and will be seeking applications from qualified candidates effective immediately.
Nell announced Tuesday that she will no longer assume the position she was elected to on November 8th. Pursuant to the Colorado constitution, the BOCC is responsible for appointing a Clerk and Recorder to serve a two-year term.
“The process will be open to the community and one that is transparent, thoughtful, and thorough,” said Board Chair Tamara Pogue. “The office of the Clerk and Recorder, responsible for conducting fair elections and ensuring accurate record-keeping of County business including motor vehicles, requires skill and dedication to Summit County. We intend to move as quickly as possible in order to ensure a normal transition period,” she continued.
To meet the qualifications established by the state, candidates must have lived in Summit County for at least one year. Also pursuant to state law, the office will be open for election to a two-year term in the November 2024 general election.
Qualified applications will be accepted for review no later than close of business November 30th. Individuals may submit a letter of interest and a resume by email to manageradmin@summitcountyco.gov. The BOCC is expected to consider and appoint by vote at their December 9th, 2022 regular meeting.
